The state of Ohio has increased the minimum limit requirements for auto insurance as of December 22, 2013. The minimum for Bodily Injury Liability is $25,000 per person & $50,000 per occurrence, while the minimum for Property Damage Liability is $25,000. For existing customers, the new limits will become effective when your policy renews. For new customers, all policies must be written at the new minimum limits or higher. A recent study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau shows that questionable auto accident claims increased 46% between 2007 and 2009. This is a characteristic that we traditionally see when the economy is off and people are feeling the financial pinch and the temptation to create claim income increases. Golf cart, ATV, and off-road vehicles are now subject to Ohio’s new mandatory registration which became effective July 1, 2009. Make sure you register your specialty vehicle. As a registered vehicle, you will need to be sure you have specific insurance on your registered vehicles. YOU ARE UNINSURED unless you have specific insurance on them. The old reliance on the homeowners policy to pay for them and for their liability DOES NOT APPLY any longer.

YOU are responsible and YOU decide what limits you are comfortable with. We are here to help you make those decisions. Remember to review your new policies. HIGHER LIMITS OF PROTECTION ARE ALMOST ALWAYS AVAILABLE.

IF YOU OWN A HOME OR BUSINESS THAT IS VACANT YOU NEED TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION WITH YOUR INSURANCE AGENT. You will be very unhappy if you wait to call until after you have a claim!
